AIIMS Bhubaneswar Achieves First Successful Liver Transplant with Sibling Donation

First liver transplant in AIIMS: Brother's liver transplanted in his body Bhubaneswar, 3112 (Bureau): The transplant of a brother's bed in the ICU is also a demonstration of love. He came from Mumbai to donate his liver. Without hesitation, he saved his elder brother's life by donating his liver. With this, for the first time in the history of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, such a liver transplant has been successfully done. While no other AIIMS has done this, it has been possible in AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. For such a success, the executive director of the institution, Dr., has been able to open the liver. This young man from Pipili has been the first to be transplanted in this unit. After the liver transplant, both the brothers are healthy. While the younger brother has been discharged from the hospital, Dr. Vishwas has informed that the elder brother will also be discharged in a few days. He said that the surgical team consisting of more than 50 members took about 14 hours to complete the transplant procedure. For this, he congratulated the Ashutosh Vishwas transplant team of the Care Unit in New Delhi along with the Head of the Gastrosurgery Department Dr. Brahmadutt Pattanaik, Dr. Tanmay Dutt and Transplant Intensive Care Dr. Sunita Gupta. A 37-year-old man from Pipili area of Puri district had a failed liver. His father took his sick son to various hospitals for a long time for 8 months and finally admitted him to AIIMS. After the tests, the young man needed a liver transplant. While a dedicated OPD was made operational at AIIMS this year to speed up the liver transplant process, last November, 10 ILBS, Head of Liver Transplant Surgery, Professor (Dr.) Binyendra Pamecha expressed his gratitude to the head. AIIMS had been planning for liver transplants from 2023. An MoU was also signed with MILBS for the treatment of liver and biliary diseases. Now, the liver transplant OPD is opened every Tuesday, and more than 200 patients have received services from this OPD this year. AIIMS has said that there are plans for liver transplants for pediatric patients in the future.
