Indore Contaminated Water Tragedy: 10 Dead, CM Visits, Officials Suspended
------------------ ------------------------------------- 10 dead after drinking contaminated water Bhopal, 31.12 (Agency): An in-charge deputy engineer of the country has come to know that 10 people have died in the last week due to drinking contaminated water in Bhagirathpura, the cleanest city of Indore. Four people, including a 5-month-old baby, lost their lives there on Wednesday. More than 150 people are admitted to various hospitals complaining of vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. The family of the deceased will get Rs 2 lakh. Seeing the seriousness of the case, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav reached Indore today. He visited various hospitals and met the affected patients. He has given Rs 2 lakh to the family of the deceased and directed the officials to provide proper treatment to the affected. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, a Zonal Officer and an Assistant Engineer have been suspended. They have been dismissed from their jobs. The state government has constituted a three-member committee to investigate the incident. The district administration and the health department are jointly monitoring the situation. Meanwhile, the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has asked the state government to submit a status report by January 2. High Court Bar Association President Ritesh Insani today filed a public interest litigation (PIL) demanding provision of clean drinking water to the city's citizens. The High Court has sought an urgent hearing on the matter and sought a response from the state government. The Congress has constituted a five-member committee to investigate the matter. It is initially suspected that the contamination may have been caused by a leakage in a pipeline due to ongoing excavation work in the local ward.
